| The series of photographs that comprise my current body of work began with one simple subject that I came upon in the fall of 2003. A tree broken either by age or by weather had split apart in mid trunk, and I was unable to photograph it in one frame. Without thinking too much about it, I made three consecutive frames, starting at the base of the trunk and moving up to the higher branches. The fragmented tree became more than a sum of its parts. As I looked at the prints, laid out one above the other, I began to think of its history and perhaps a bit about its future and its part in the cycle of time and nature. |
